Beamsley Beacon (Bleak Mid Winter)

Acrylic on Canvas 61cm x 46cm

This painting evolved from an unsuccessful one of flowers to one that became very textural and dramatic. Thicker paint than I would normally use was required to cover the flowers below and the sweep of the brush loaded with darker purples and
greens with white was a limited palette compared with my normal choices and I really love the resulting image.

It is one that has resonated with many including me and is reminiscent of Yorkshire’s empty wild places, winter walks, travels to places like Iceland and of our local ‘mountain’ Beamsley Beacon, heather covered, which in British weather
can be wonderfully dramatic in any season.

Some however only see the force of the sea crashing with waves growing as large as a mountain.

I enjoy people telling me about their own interpretations of my paintings which, in turn, infuses them life and a more personal meaning.

If you are interested in any of my paintings and would like to discuss possible exhibitions or commissions then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
