Acrylic on Canvas 61 x 61 cm
Having experienced the wondrous half-light of Finland, when the sun never rises but the landscape is snow covered and sparkles with rainbow colours, I was inspired to capture this luminosity in my paintings. ‘One Night Only’ is one of these paintings but alludes to the interior of the ice hotel in which we stayed for one night only! It was lit with soft, coloured lights and there were no corners or sharp edges.
I poured diluted paint onto a wet canvas surface and allowed the colours to flow into one another and carefully controlled the intensity and the softness of the edges. This
was over painted blending areas to emphasize the feeling of light and dark in spaces beyond and all around. It was icy cold as the colours I have chosen show but they also emit radiance and glow invitingly. We were well wrapped up for the whole magical experience.
If you are interested in any of my paintings and would like to discuss possible exhibitions or commissions then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
