Mixed Media on Canvas 50cm x 50cm
I have used soft fairly neutral colours of various pigments crushed and ground, sprinkled, dusted and poured and lines drawn and scraped into the textural areas. Contained within are sand, grit, Plaster of Paris, pure pigment extracted from stone/rock (by me and bought), PVA & water.
Swimming with the tide is what most of us do most of the time and is encapsulated in the almost body like shape ‘swimming’ within the boundaries of the enclosing ‘banks’. Conformity is often the easiest option. We behave within norms in our family lives, our social circles and work and play, not wishing to cause any ripples. We find where we fit in best and sometimes settle for that.
Although swimming within the confines of its environs this figure is reaching upwards hoping to make a difference, even if that difference is only a tiny ripple of something good shared.
I imagine the ripple of soft nuanced colours in this painting will flow forever onwards. Tributaries will join together to become one, and strong, and will flow eventually towards a better world.
Therefore do not settle: always be open to change and stay alert to what may or may not be reality. Be aware and compassionate – act with kindness. You may cause a ripple for good.
