The freedom and fun of throwing colour onto canvas is tremendous. From random marks emerges an image which I develop using a variety of mark making techniques. Sometimes the results are completely imaginary and sometimes based loosely on a memory or image of somewhere I have been. Using the accidental, scrubbing away and adding to the image until it emerges complete is utterly fulfilling and sets my mind free. I enjoy dripping and splashing paint onto canvas and watching how the colours mix and merge sometimes controlling the flow and out of which beautiful shapes and subtle veils of colour appear. I add marks using textured paint or flat solid colour and re-work other areas. I attempt to find a balance of light colour and shape creating visually engaging compositions.
