This commission was indeed a challenge as I have never created anything quite like it!
(This photograph was taken in my house prior to delivery)

The customer requested a diptych, one painting to be about her husband, and the other about her, to enhance a beautiful new extension. Over many hours, visits, coffee and emails I learned about the family, their loves, interests and personalities, and business success.

Each painting is full of symbolism as there was to be no direct obvious reference made to any of the above. I researched many ideas over several months and the paintings evolved over time.

As this client is a very private person I will not reveal any of the meanings of the symbols and leave it to the onlooker to guess and interpret each part of each painting.

She wrote, ‘Many thanks for fulfilling my expectations and my faith in you! It is obvious how much research, effort and care you have lavished on both of the paintings. I can’t wait to have them on the wall’.

The colours glow and add tremendous warmth to the space. Texture was important and this was created by using Coal and Yorkshire stone which I crushed with a pestle and mortar, and beautiful Natural Earth power pigments as well as gold and silver leaf.

If you are interested in any of my paintings and would like to discuss possible exhibitions or commissions then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
